Suffolk Transportation Services

Town of Brookhaven IDA

Privately owned Suffolk Transportation Services is the largest bus system in Suffolk County, serving over 25,000 school children and 10,000 public transit passengers each day. In addition to a new Coram transportation hub built with IDA assistance, the company has two facilities in Ronkonkoma, as well as facilities in Bay Shore, Brentwood and Islip. Its Coram facility, originally owned by United Bus and acquired by Suffolk Transportation five years earlier, housed two outdated structures that totaled 7,500 square feet. Suffolk Transportation demolished the old buildings and constructed a new 20,000-square-foot, $6 million facility now staffed with 150 new employees. The site serves as a transportation hub to store and maintain 300 school buses serving school districts within the Town of Brookhaven. The 300 vehicles being stored in Coram represents roughly a quarter of Suffolk Transportation’s entire fleet.
