Fujitsu

The Development Corporation

Project Need(s)
The company needed to consolidate its manufacturing and supply chain management operations into one location.

Project Solution
In April 2011 FFNA announced plans to move its point of sale (POS) manufacturing and integration operations from its current headquarters in Foothill Ranch, California to its Plattsburgh, NY facility in The Development Corporation’s Air Industrial Park.

Fujitsu first came to Plattsburgh in 2004, when it acquired Optimal Robotics, a local technology producer of automated self check-out and point of sale equipment. Since then, FFNA has been manufacturing and managing supply chain operations for its self-checkout and self-service systems, as well as servicing retail customers throughout North America, Australia and Europe, from its Plattsburgh facility.

The consolidation involved the need for 53 new full-time jobs in Plattsburgh. The Development Corporation helped FFNA to secure a $500,000 Small Cities Grant from the NYS Office of Community Renewal to assist with the employee training costs and some of the machinery purchases necessary to consolidate its manufacturing and supply chain operations in Plattsburgh.

The Development Corporation oversaw the renovation of FFNA’s existing 40,000SF facility and expansion of an additional 30,000SF in an adjacent facility. In September 2011 FFNA hosted a grand re-opening event to mark the completed consolidation of the company’s North American Manufacturing and Integration to Plattsburgh.
The consolidation of manufacturing and supply chain management functions in Plattsburgh not only helped FFNA to lower its business operations costs, but Plattsburgh’s geographic location also provides maximum flexibility for FFNA to ship to domestic and international customers.
