Job Title: Community Food
System Team Coordinator (.6FTE)
Location: Greene County, Cairo, NY
Cornell Cooperative Extension Greene County (Cairo, NY)
is searching for a Community Food System Team
Coordinator (.6FTE). The purpose of this position
is to encourage the development of a vibrant
community-based food system that achieves the following
goals:
- Design, support and deliver
educational programs designed to increase
consumption of locally produced safe, healthy and
affordable food as a significant source of the
community's diet.
- Improving the profitability of
the county and region's farmland.
- Developing job opportunities
across the food and farm economy.
- Improving public health by
ensuring access to safe, healthy and affordable food
from local and other optimal sources.
The essential function of this
position is to provide vision and leadership for a
broad-based, multi-pronged approach to community food
system programming that integrates the existing work and
resources of the Greene County Association and
Agroforestry Resource Center and provides a framework
for complementary programming in the future.
Key responsibilities:
- Providing leadership for
Association efforts in nutrition education,
including supervision of two full-time program
educators in nutrition and seeking greater synergy
between federal nutrition programs and local food
system efforts.
- Managing the Association's
participation in the NYS Department of Health funded
project entitled 'Eat Well Play Hard (EWPH),' a
youth physical activity and nutrition program,
including collaboration with project partners in
Delaware County.
- Developing a conceptual
framework for community food system programming and
effectively communicating the program goals and
activities to diverse audiences.
- Working with the Executive
Director and other program staff to integrate the
existing work and resources of the Association and
identify opportunities to create complementary
programming in the future.
- Conducting an assessment of
existing food and farm resources in the county and
region with an emphasis on understanding linkages,
both real and potential, and identifying unmet
needs.
- Building leadership and
working partnerships among food and farm system
stakeholders.
- Encouraging and facilitating
the development of peer-to-peer learning teams that
freely exchange information, experience and
resources.
- Identifying other
opportunities to enhance community engagement in the
food and farm system with an emphasis on empowering
eaters in both private and institutional settings.
- Developing and
implementing a plan for ongoing program evaluation.
- Participating in
regional and statewide working groups that advance
program goals

Qualifications:
Masters Degree in Agriculture, Nutrition, Social
Science, Natural Resources or related field. A minimum
of two years progressive community-based experience in
Natural Resources and Food System programming.
