Wellsville Carpet Town, d/b/a Ashley Furniture was looking to locate its Warehouse/Distribution Center for Western New York and Northern Pennsylvania somewhere in the region and was seriously considering renovating a site in PA to facilitate an upcoming store expansion.
The company needed an immediate solution and was convinced it would need to retrofit a building to save time and costs. The company also believed that the tax structure in New York was too expensive and that the project would have to be located in Pennsylvania despite the fact that most of its expansion was set to take place in the Buffalo and Rochester markets.
By utilizing the Empire Zone and working with the local municipality, the Genesee County Economic Development Center was able to show the company that it could actually save time and money by building a new facility in the agency's Gateway II industrial park located in the Town of Batavia, NY. The project went from announcement to permitting approval in just three weeks and the infrastructure was installed as the project broke ground.
